Designer and maker of interior joinery, bespoke cabinetry and furniture

Taking an idea, or a problem that needs to be solved and working it through into a functional, elegant, real-life piece of furniture is what gets me excited to turn up at the workshop each morning.

Whether it’s built-in cabinetry – designed for and fitted into a specific space – or moveable freestanding pieces, I approach each project with the same stringent attention to detail.

My way of working – on bespoke commissions or small batch productions – affords me a close working relationship with clients, meaning I can develop solutions that respond to their individual needs, whilst having the facility to fine-tune every detail of a design.

When it comes to the making I draw on a combination of traditional woodworking techniques and modern technology, seeking to bring out the best qualities of the raw materials. The goal isn’t just to create beautiful, functional furniture, but furniture that’s been built sustainably and built to last.

Ed Thomsett - founder & designer / maker

Growing up surrounded by trees in rural North Yorkshire has given Ed an engrained appreciation of the natural world. This first led him down the career path in landscape architecture, before the realisation that for him satisfaction in the creative process comes from being involved in every aspect of it - the hands-on making as well as the designing.

After leaving his job to retrain as a woodworker, Ed graduated from City of Bristol College with a distinction in Level 2 Furniture Studies, and has been making furniture full-time since.

His background in ecological design has not been wasted though, as his ability to generate ideas and refine them into workable solutions, paired with an understanding of computer design software is a great asset, especially when it comes with a sympathy for the raw materials and the best ways of working with wood in a sustainable manner.
